Cracking the Code: A good idea
It’s ThinkTimm, back with another episode of “Why Make Music…”—where we Crack the Code of creativity, one amusing anecdote at a time. Let’s go, because episode 006 was a ride filled with laughter, insights, and just the right amount of chaos. Put in your earbuds or AirPods and let’s dive into the world of music creation!
In this episode, I took a deep dive into the essential elements of planning and creativity in music. I kicked things off with a throwback story that perfectly illustrates the importance of having a game plan, even if it doesn’t come together. Picture me as a wide-eyed kid, armed with a keyboard and a dream, blissfully unaware that the idea of talent and sensible teacher that meant well, but still in my opinion clearly didn’t read the script —spoiler alert: I didn’t triumphantly, with all doubts gone run back to the stage to a cheering audience and break into a high energy encore, topped off with me pumping up the crowd from atop of the corner super large speaker. (wink)
Moving on to the concept of “Cracking the Code,” I explored how effective planning can dramatically impact the creative process. I shared personal anecdotes and examples from my own journey, emphasizing that strategizing before diving into the creative chaos can save you from accidentally turning a heartfelt ballad into an unintended techno rave (which, believe me, can happen!).
Next, we ventured into the fascinating process of composing a song. I discussed what ideas typically come first and the balance between having complete ideas versus feeling your way through the creative soundscape. It’s a bit like navigating a dark basement studio, sometimes you stumble upon a masterpiece, while other times, you just stub your toe on the pool table while trying to kill a cricket that can heard in the background as you check your mic levels. I also played around with melody-making techniques and shared tips for experimenting with different sounds.
And speaking of sounds, I recently released not one, but two streaming music projects that I poured my heart into: “Demotional… Caught Feelings” and “Beatanical… Booming Bouquet.”
The Making of “Demotional… Caught Feelings”
Creating “Demotional… Caught Feelings” was like opening a treasure chest of emotions. I wanted to explore those fleeting moments that catch us off guard and make us feel alive—those times when a melody transports you back to a specific moment in time, whether it’s joy, nostalgia, or even a bit of heartache. The tracks range from upbeat anthems that make you want to dance like nobody’s watching to more introspective pieces that encourage funky reflection. It’s like a musical rollercoaster, taking you through the landscape of human emotion. And let’s be real—there’s something hilarious about trying to create a “deep” song while simultaneously getting distracted by the everyday household conversation that are going on around you!
The World of “Beatanical… Booming Bouquet”
Then came “Beatanical… Booming Bouquet,” a project inspired by my love for nature and music. It’s all about embracing fun and lightheartedness, with each track blooming into its unique sound. It was suggested that I use botanical names as titles, hence the “Beatanical” theme. I experimented with mixing organic sounds—think chirping birds and synth pads —into catchy beats that make you want to twirl around like a sunflower in a breeze. If that doesn’t sound like a dance-off between a bumblebee and a disco ball, I don’t know what does!
Now, you might be wondering, “Why the rush, ThinkTimm?” Well, my goal is to amass a catalog of music like a kid collecting Pokémon cards. The more tracks I have, the better my chances of catching the elusive sync agents and music supervisors who can help me land placements in sync libraries. Can you imagine my music playing during a dramatic scene behind with favorite actors? Or during an epic montage in a gardening documentary? That’s the dream!
As I navigate this musical journey, I’m also excited to share modified video excerpt from the podcast. I’ll be documenting my creative process, the hilarious mishaps, and those moments of clarity that make it all worthwhile. It’s all about building a community where we can laugh, learn, and grow together.
And speaking of community, I offered a “pep talk” on the importance of consistent social media engagement during the episode. Building a loyal audience is crucial, and I shared strategies for growing organically without resorting to gimmicks. It’s all about finding that balance between chasing viral success and nurturing genuine connections.
The journey of ThinkTimm is just getting started, and I’m thrilled to have you along for the ride. Expect more updates, new projects, and plenty of amusing anecdotes from my life as an aspiring music creator. Here’s to catching feelings, blooming beats, and a whole lot of fun!
Stay tuned for more updates and remember to check out my latest releases, “Demotional… Caught Feelings” and “Beatanical… Booming Bouquet.” Who knows? Until next time, keep the Music alive & ThinkTimm…. if not else.
